About me
So, what is a Dadicurean?
Playing on the word ‘epicurean,’ which means a person who is into finer foods, a ‘Dadicurean’ is someone who is looking to take their barbecue game up a notch and move beyond the basics.
Thanks to the widespread popularity of pellet grills and gravity-fed charcoal grills, Dad’s aren’t interested in the same old burgers, hotdogs and a steak here or there. They are wanting to expand their culinary skillset in ways that in the past would have required a large offset smoker you towed around with a Ford F-250, and a fully day of babysitting a fire. But let’s be honest, even with access to the latest, and greatest grills, you still need to learn basic techniques and have an understanding of what do to and what not do. This is where this blog of mine comes in. Whether you’ve been grilling for a while or you’re brand new to the game, there’s always stuff to learn and new things to try.
Who I am
After retiring from the military after a 22 year career, my family and I moved to the great state of Oklahoma to start our new civilian life and put down some roots in a place we could call home.
Part of that process was putting greater focus on one my biggest, and let’s be honest, most delicious past-times, barbecue. I would be lying if I said the Internet has not been my greatest asset during this process, so this blog is simply about giving back and sharing what I’ve learned so far.
What I believe
You don’t need to have an unlimited budget to be a great Dadicurean; just a willingness to learn, and try new things.
Learning is a process, and that process involves getting things right and sometimes getting things wrong.
Barbecuing, whether it’s grilling or smoking is all about preparing delicious food for the people who mean the most to you.
Above all else:
- Be careful.
- Be creative.
- Be open-minded.
